Why choose New Castle Steel (NCS)?
It’s strong, stable, long-lasting, non-combustible, eco-friendly, easy to work with, and made in the USA. A better question is, why not New Castle Steel?
How easy is it to work with NCS?
NCS lays out quickly and easily. There are only three components: (1) NCS Track (Ledger), (2) NCS Joist, and (3) NCS Support Post.
Each piece can be cut to fit and assembled just like wood.
NCS is assembled using hex head self-drilling screws and common angle brackets.
NCS requires fewer tools (a circular saw, drill, and ferrous metal blades) than typical wood framing.
What tools are required?
Tape measure, permanent felt marker, C-channel vice grips, circular saw, drill with adjustable clutch and torque (with speed range of 0-2,500 max), ferrous metal cutting blade (7-¼” or 18.4 cm), step drill bit, and NCS textured touch-up paint.
Are there color choices in NCS framing?
NCS steel deck framing is available in ONE unique color. It is designed to provide a pleasing and subtle shadow effect under the deck, drawing visual attention to its detailed elements.
What type of maintenance is required with NCS?
NCS is low-maintenance when appropriately installed. The dual-coated finish protects the steel and insulates it from outdoor elements.
Does it need to be painted when the steel in NCS is exposed, such as in an end cut or scratch?
Yes. Each steel component is galvanized and coated with a specially formulated exterior finish that is primed, painted, and baked on - exclusively engineered for the durability of NCS.
If scratched and not painted, the galvanization process will restrict rust. Rust will be electromagnetically restricted to only the areas exposed.
Always paint exposed steel with NCS textured touch-up paint as a preventative and aesthetic measure. To speed up the process, we recommend doing this after you have cut a large number of components.
Can scrap NCS cut-offs be recycled?
Yes. NCS components contain a minimum of 25% recycled steel, and cut-offs are 100% recyclable.
Can NCS be used in high-fire danger areas?
Yes. NCS components are non-combustible with a Class 1A fire rating and qualify for extreme wildfire building codes under the Wild Land Urban Interface (WUI) building material requirements.
What is the proper method to store NCS?
NCS should be supported at a sufficient height to avoid complete ground contact. Heat and cold transfer to any steel product can sometimes damage lawn and vegetation.
Can NCS components come into contact with soil or concrete when installed?
NCS has been approved to contact both soil and concrete.
What fasteners can I use to attach decking to NCS framing?
When installing any decking product, only use NCS-approved fasteners. Using non-recommended fasteners could void the warranty. The installation guide lists approved fasteners.
Where is NCS manufactured?
NCS is proudly manufactured in America from 100% American-made steel.
